Star Atlas — the real night sky, yours to explore and redraw
Every dot above is a real star — 8,922 of them, every star visible to the naked eye (magnitude ≤ 6.5) from the HYG astronomical catalog, plotted at its true position with its true brightness and color. All 88 IAU constellations are built in with their classic figures. Explore the sky, hunt down Orion, then do what astronomers never let you do: connect the stars your own way, name your creation, and share it.
A real sky, not a picture
Pan and zoom across the whole celestial sphere with live RA/Dec coordinates — every star is plotted from catalog data, colored by its real temperature.
All 88 constellations
The complete IAU set — from Andromeda to Vulpecula — with authentic line figures, Latin names and English meanings. Hover any line to identify it.
Constellation maker
Connect any stars into your own figure, name it, save it to My Sky, share it as a link, or download a poster of it.
Daily challenge
Trace a real constellation from memory against the clock. One daily sky for streaks, plus Easy / Medium / Hard practice.
Antique atlas mode
Flip the site to light theme and the sky becomes a 17th-century paper star chart — ink stars, sepia figures, serif labels.
Touch-first
Drag to pan, pinch to zoom, tap to connect. The full experience works on your phone, free, no install.
All 88 constellations, ready to visit
Tap any constellation to fly straight to it in the atlas. Each is drawn with the modern figure used by planetarium software, on top of the real catalog stars.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Star Atlas night sky real?
Yes. Every star is a real star from the HYG astronomical catalog — 8,900+ stars down to magnitude 6.5 (the naked-eye limit), each plotted at its true right ascension and declination with brightness and color taken from the catalog.
Are all 88 constellations included?
All 88 IAU constellations are built in, drawn with their classic line figures (the same modern figures used by the Stellarium planetarium), with both their Latin names (like Orion or Aquila) and English meanings (The Hunter, The Eagle).
How do I draw my own constellation?
Switch to Draw mode, then tap one star and tap another to connect them with a line. Keep connecting stars to build a figure, then save it with its own name. You can share it as a link or download a poster image of it.
What is Challenge mode?
Challenge mode hides a constellation’s lines and asks you to reconnect its stars from memory against the clock. There is a fresh Daily Challenge every day plus practice rounds in three difficulties, scored by accuracy and time.
Does Star Atlas work on mobile?
Yes — drag with one finger to pan, pinch to zoom, and tap stars to connect them in Draw mode. The whole experience is touch-first and free.
Why does the sky look like an old paper map in light mode?
That’s intentional: in light theme the Star Atlas renders as an antique celestial atlas — ink stars and sepia figures on parchment — while dark theme is the realistic night sky.
